The #1 Thing Most Women Get Wrong About Sales
(and How to Fix It)

Sales. Just the word alone makes so many women cringe a little. Or a lot 😉

Some say right away ‘Ugh, I hate sales!’.
Others act tough and you notice immediately they’re in this harsh fight mode energy.
And once you take a closer look, almost all admit that they carry this weird feeling that selling is somehow… dirty.

Like the moment we sell, we become bad people. Manipulative and pushy.
Just l
ike these used car salesmen no one likes.

And at the beginning of my career I could so relate to that.

But truth is: selling itself is not a bad thing.
It’s just… a conversation.
An invitation.
A way of saying, “Here’s how I can help, if you’d like that.”

But because there are some people out there who do it differently (think: shady car sales),
we assume that’s what sales is.
And we forget that it can be one of the most generous things we do.

That misunderstanding alone is what stops so many women from selling their offers joyfully.

Below, I’m sharing a lesson that a little girl on a market taught me and I’m sure it’ll help you see selling in a different way as well. It’s one of those lessons that you just can’t get from a business book.

A lesson from a little girl at the market

A while ago, I walked through the weekly market in a small Portuguese town. The smell of roasted chestnuts in the air.
Old ladies selling vegetables from their gardens.

I sat down with a cup of tea and watched the crowd.

And that’s when I noticed a little girl, maybe eight, standing behind a small table covered with toys. She had made her own handwritten sign.

And she was selling.

I watched her for a while. She smiled at everyone walking by, proudly pointing to each toy and telling tiny stories about them.

“This one used to help me fall asleep every night until I was 7.”
“That one went on vacation with me to the Algarve.”
“My brother and I used to play this game a lot. But he always wins so I don’t like it.”

There was no fear.
No shame.
Just pure joy in sharing what she loved.

The people listened to her stories. Some bought a toy, others smiled and moved on.

The girl didn’t trick anyone into buying.
I doubt she had a manipulative strategy.
But her joy was contagious. Her stories built an honest connection.

She wasn’t convincing anyone.
She was simply showing her excitement.
Showing off her toys.
And that was enough.

So… was she doing anything wrong?

Of course not.

She believed in what she offered. And that belief sold it.

That’s what we forget as adults. I haven’t yet figured out when exactly, but somewhere along the way we pick up that sales is something dirty.
But really, selling is neutral. It’s the intention behind it that makes it dirty. Or kind.

So here’s a different perspective

Selling can be this simple (and this honest!):

  • Create an offer you truly believe in
  • Talk about it with real, honest excitement
  • Let people see who you are and what you stand for
  • Invite them to work with you — only if it feels right for them

That’s it.
No convincing.
No objection handling.
No needy chasing.

The moment you stop seeing sales as “getting someone to say yes” and start seeing it as “helping someone make a clear choice,”
it stops feeling icky.

You are relaxed and just naturally talk about your offer. Just like you would tell your best friend about that new café you’ve discovered.

You’re not ‘trying to convince’ anyone. You’re just connecting.

So, next time you share your offer I hope you remember that little girl at the market.

Smile.
Tell your stories.
Share what you love about what you do.

Because somewhere out there, someone’s been waiting for exactly what you have to offer.
